A lil' bit about me!

I'm an M.A. student in Digital Humanities at McGill researching how language data can be used to study human culture, supervised by Prof. Andrew Piper. My dinner party description of what I do is "using AI to study storytelling". This is important for better understanding...

Human culture: We have more data than ever before on all the rich variations and patterns of human life - but to use this resource to understand ourselves better, we need frameworks to empirically test cultural theories meaningfully with computational tools. A lot of my work involves developing/applying these frameworks!
How computers "think": Comparing human and language model outputs on culturally grounded tasks can teach us a lot about model behavior. So through using AI to study culture, we learn a lot about AI too!
